Faculty members in University of Babylon obtained a patent on preparing an absorbent rubber material for water.

The patent, in which granted by the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control Unit of the Ministry of Planning, included manufacturing a rubber absorbent material for water by defecting crystalline structure and adding polymeric overlapping material during the rubber embryos and during the manufacturing process via adding PEG-CMC to the rubber material of the NBR with different mixing ratios.

 The patent concluded that a rubber material was invented to be absorbable to be used in the field of medical and sports belts used for weight loss for its absorbent, porous and anti-bacterial characteristics.
