A research team in the College of Pharmacy, University of Al-Mustansiriya obtained a patent on designing new derivatives of metformin

The patent, in which granted by the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control Unit of the Ministry of Planning, aimed at improving the bioavailability of oral metformin via adding a series of amino acids to the glycol as a mixture.

The patent included preparing two sequences of metformin derivatives by binding (5) amino acids of classicin, alanine, phenylalanine, proline, HABA kapa aminobutric, methyl ester derivatives and glycol as a mixture.

The patent concluded that the Vb, Vc, VIc, and Ve had a greater effect than metformin to reduce sugar blood after five hours, while the compounds of the VIb, Vic, Vid, Ve and VIe showed their effects 24 hours later.
