A research team in the Department of Horticulture-College of Agriculture, University of Karbala produced new cultivating types of rare plants besides their economic returns and medical uses, Head of the Department, Dr. Mohammed Hadi said.

Dr. Hadi added that the team cultivates vegetables of Brussels sprout cabbage and the Chinese cabbage that have a nutritional value and elements of sulfurafan and indolen which have an active role in preventing cancer, diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis and hypertension.

Dr. Hadi reviewed that the crops were cultivated in different periods in order to identify the appropriate types for Iraq besides the appropriate time for cultivation.

Dr. Hadi also reviewed that the team continues cultivating new kinds of cucumber and other rare plants with economic importance.
