National Center for Research and Treatment of Diabetes, University of Al-Mustansiriyah delivered a lecture on the importance of fasting for diabetics of the two types.

The lecture, in which a number of postgraduates and doctors participated, reviewed the benefits of fasting for some diabetics that controls blood glucose levels, helps in producing energy for the body, reduces the production of insulin, leads to the rest of pancreas, increases the production of glycogen, facilitates cracking of glucose, gets rid of excess fat and reduces levels of cholesterol and uric acid.

The lecture also reviewed the negative effects of fasting on patients with diabetes of two types such as increasing the risk of lower blood sugar level almost 5 times for patients of type I and 7 times higher in patients with type II.
