College of Science, University of Basrah organized a symposium on the biological treatment of contaminated soil with hydrocarbons.

The symposium, in which a number of researchers participated, reviewed the correct methods of treating pollution with minimal risk and cost, as well as the physical and chemical processes are sometimes insufficient to contain the pollutant and remove it from the environment.

The symposium highlighted that the environmental biotechnology which is one of the most important technologies that are concerned with biological applications in the environmental fields via producing active substances using organisms such as bacteria and fungi to get rid of soil and water pollutants.
