College of Science, University of Al-Qadisiyah discussed a Ph.D. thesis on the use of titanium dioxide and plant extracts in combating hard ticks parasitic on ruminants and diagnosing them molecularly by the postgraduate student, Mr. Badr Rakan Shallal.
The thesis aimed at testing the effectiveness of plant extracts, Nano-materials and their combinations in combating hard ticks and to use molecular methods for accurate diagnosis.
The thesis demonstrated that the western leaf extract had the highest effect on the roles of hard ticks, while the nanomaterial had the least effect. Molecular diagnosis of tick genera identified two genera: Hyalomma and Rhipiecephalus.
The thesis recommended the use of other types of plant extracts and nanomaterials at higher concentrations for control, and the use of other types of primers to distinguish between closely related species of ticks.
