During
participating as a representative of the Republic of Iraq in the sixty-eighth
session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency in
the Austrian capital, Vienna His Excellency, Head of the Iraqi Atomic Energy
Commission and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem
Abd Yaser Al-Aboudi stressed the legitimate right of countries to seek the safe
and peaceful use of nuclear technology and to enhance their development,
economic and health programs and support their future plans to obtain energy
from various sources.
Dr.
Al-Aboudi reviewed that Iraq and its competent executive institutions are
working seriously to achieve the goals of sustainable development and support
this endeavor by joining a number of agreements, including the Nuclear Safety
Agreement, the Joint Agreement on the Safety and Management of Spent Fuel, and
the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management, as well as enacting and activating
a number of related laws, including the Law of the Iraqi Atomic Energy
Commission and the Law of the National Authority for Nuclear, Radiological,
Chemical and Biological Control in 2024.
His
Excellency added that the Iraqi government continues its positive cooperation
with the International Atomic Energy Agency in the fields of building and
developing national capabilities in peaceful nuclear applications through
technical cooperation programs and projects, as well as training and
development opportunities.
Dr.
Al-Aboudi highlighted that these programs are important in promoting the
peaceful and safe uses of nuclear technology.
