College of Science, Al-Nahrain University discussed a Ph.D. thesis on the extraction of some heavy elements using a modified polymer using chemical techniquesby the postgraduate student, Ms. Suham Alwan Shukr.
The thesis aimed at preparing modified polymers by reacting methyl polymer with amino compounds by condensation, which led to the production of materials with distinctive physical and chemical properties.
The thesis reviewed that the modified polymers have high efficiency in absorbing and removing heavy metal ions, indicating the possibility of employing this technology to reduce environmental pollution caused by industrial waste, especially in areas close to factories and power plants.
The thesis recommended developing this technology in the future to enhance its effectiveness in treating polluted water and improving environmental sustainability.
