A joint research team in the College of Pharmacy , University of Al-Mustansiriyah obtained a patent on using the aqueous extract of the Beta Vulgaris as an alternative VV for the development of (6) isolates of mycobacterium spp. The patent, in which granted by the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control Unit of the Ministry of Planning, reviewed that the agricultural VV of Beta Vulgaris juice is no less important than other liquid agricultural VV that are used to preserve tuberculosis bacteria such as the Middlebrook 7H9 VV, as well as the ability to rely on the solid Beta Vulgaris VV as an alternative to the Lowenstein-Jensen VV (LJ) which is used to grow the bacteria itself. It is worth mentioning that the research team included Dr. Ahmed Ali Mohamed, Dr. Suhad Faisal Hatem and Dr. Basma Talib Jasim.
