Al-Musayyib Technical College, Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University discussed a master dissertation on compared the severity and percentage of parasitic infection of fish of the Al-Kifl River and Al-Husseiniya River in Al-Hindiya Dam by the postgraduate student, Mrs. Laila Ali Abd Al-Amir Al-Zubaidi.
The dissertation aimed at conducting a survey to identify parasitic animals on some fish in the Al-Kifl and Al-Husseiniya rivers.
The dissertation reviewed determining the severity and rate of infection, identifying some chemical and physical properties and conducting a comparison between the severity and rate of infection of fish parasites in the Kifl and Husseiniya rivers.
The dissertation indicated that the high level of water pollution resulting from factories and sewage, and the frequent use of pesticides, led to the formation of an environment suitable and encouraging for the infection of parasites.
The dissertation confirmed that after examining (256) fish belonging to twelve species of fish during the current study, it was found that they were infected with (14) types of internal and external parasites.
The dissertation also reviewed that fish were infected with one type of parasite for the first time in Iraq, Allocreadium markewitschi.
The dissertation highlighted that 17 species of fish were recorded as new hosts for different types of parasites.
