College of Engineering, University of Baghdad discussed a master dissertation on determining the region of the highest production capacity for hydraulic cracks in an eastern Baghdad field by the postgraduate student, Ms. Amani Ihsan Aliwi.

The dissertation aimed at addressing the problem of the sharp decline in the productivity of wells with high storage capacity and low production by creating hydraulic cracks to increase the permeability of the formation and maintain high production rates for a sufficient period.

The dissertation stressed on conducting of laboratory tests to analyze core samples with the aim of measuring the mechanical properties of rocks, as well as using of 3D seismic data to enhance other data to obtain a more accurate reservoir model.

The dissertation recommended the necessity of designing a model that represents the length and direction of the hydraulic cracks to cover the largest possible area after building the dynamic model, as well as studying the effect of facies on geomechanical properties.
