During a meeting with the Australian Ambassador to Baghdad, Dr. Juan Lundez His Excellency, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Qusay Al-Suhail reviewed developing joint cooperation mechanisms between the universities of both countries. Dr. Al-Suhail said that Iraq is appreciating its relations with Australia and Iraq is keen on relabeling the academic cooperation between the Iraqi universities and their counterparts of the Australian Universities. His Excellency added that the Ministry is working on promoting the level of Iraqi universities, achieving international advanced ranking and obtaining international standards and accreditation. Dr. Al-Suhail reviewed that “There are a number of Iraqi scholars in the Australian universities and hoping to facilitate the procedures of students’ admission to Australian universities”. His Excellency also reviewed the importance of achieving twinning between Iraqi universities and their Australian counterparts, developing university research fields and the need for joint research centers that coordinate scientific and research activities between the two sides and activate the aspects of joint university supervision in graduate research. For her part, Dr. Lundez expressed her country's readiness on signing bilateral agreements with Iraqi universities and research centers, Dr. Lundez added that her country is keen on overcoming obstacles to obtain admission of more Iraqi students, researchers and faculty members’ scholars in Australian universities. It is worth mentioning that the meeting highlighted on the importance of future cooperation between Iraq and Australia in the fields of water research, water resources, livestock and agricultural sciences as well as benefiting from Australian experiences in these fields.
