His Excellency, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Chairman of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission, Dr. Naeem Abd Yaser Al-Aboudi announced on the commencement of the work of the preparatory scientific committee for the 17th Arab Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy, in cooperation with the Arab Atomic Energy Agency.

During a joint press conference with the Director of the Arab Atomic Energy Agency, Dr. Salem Al-Hamdi, Dr. Al-Aboudi welcomed the start of the preparatory scientific committee meetings for the conference, scheduled to be held in Baghdad in 2026. 

Dr. Al-Aboudi reviewed that these meetings are taking place at a time when the need to utilize nuclear and radiological sciences and technologies in a peaceful and responsible manner is increasing, to support the scientific research, health, agriculture, industry, environment, water, and energy sectors.

For his part, the Director of the Arab Atomic Energy Agency, Dr. Salem Al-Hamdi, appreciated the efforts made in the Republic of Iraq, especially the qualitative interest by His Excellency, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Chairman of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission, Dr. Naeem Abd Yaser Al-Aboudi in order to organize the conference and provide a suitable environment for the preparatory scientific meetings and enable member states to pursue paths of building Arab human capacities and developing scientific knowledge in the field of peaceful uses of atomic energy, encouraging scientific research, exchanging experiences, implementing training programs, and contributing to the preparation of qualified Arab personnel capable of employing nuclear and radiological technologies in the fields of sustainable development.
