Higher Education: On Fruit Peel’s Active Compounds

The researcher in the Directorate of Environment and Water, merged Ministry of Science and Technology, Dr. Shahla Hussein conducted a research on detecting of active compounds which are rich in GC-MASS. The study aimed at using solid waste such as fruit peel in the environmental treatment process as an economically valuable and an environmental perspective option as well as the size of the used molecules and concentrations are the most important factors affecting the process of adsorption were studied in the laboratory. The study reviewed the best size of the used powder particles in the adsorption process is 1000 microns and the highest percentage of adsorption (99.7%) for banana peel followed by orange peel with adsorption of chromium, cadmium and lead in the water solution.
