Directorate of Environment and Water, merged Ministry of Science and Technology organized a symposium on methods of sustaining and preserving the Marshlands as World Heritage Sites. The symposium reviewed the role of the Ministry in reviving and sustaining the Iraqi Marshlands via implementing of several projects that will preserve the ecosystem of the marshes and wetlands and address the environmental problems and biodiversity in the region. The symposium recommended encouraging tourists to visit these archaeological sites, providing attraction conditions for international tourism, especially after the UNESCO announcement in 2016 on including marshes in the list of World Heritage for Tourism and preserving the marsh environment from the risks of industrial pollution.
