The Deputy of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for Administrative Affairs, Prof. Dr. Adnan Ibrahim Al-Jumaili participated in a workshop on the project to promote carbon reduction through energy efficiency in buildings in Iraq, held in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

Prof. Dr. Adnan Ibrahim Al-Jumaili said that the project is being implemented with support from the Global Environment Facility in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and will run for 60 months.

The Deputy added that the workshop aimed to discuss the development of a regulatory and legislative framework that promotes energy efficiency in buildings, reduces the load on the national electricity grid, and lowers greenhouse gas emissions.

Prof. Dr. Adnan Ibrahim Al-Jumaili reviewed that the workshop's topics included developing Energy Efficiency Codes for Buildings (BEEC) and Minimum Appliance Performance Standards (MEPS) and establishing an Energy Efficiency Center (EEC) to serve as a technical authority for providing advice, training, and national capacity building, as well as activating energy policies in the building sector.

The Deputy emphasized that activating monitoring, evaluation, and community awareness mechanisms is a fundamental pillar for the project's success and the achievement of its desired goals. 

Prof. Dr. Adnan Ibrahim Al-Jumaili demonstrated the importance of joint coordination among the members of the project's steering committee, which includes Deputies from the Ministries of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Environment, Construction, Housing and Municipalities, Education, Electricity, and Planning, as well as representatives from relevant unions and the private sector, to ensure the maximum possible benefit for Iraqi citizens.
