Higher Education: On Solar Radiation & Human Health

Directorate of Space and Communications, merged Ministry of Science and Technology conducted a study on the potential effects of solar radiation on human health. The study reviewed the nature of the factors affecting the solar radiation reaching the earth's surface, especially ultraviolet radiation with its wavelengths which affect human health such as (UVA, UVB) rays that cause skin burns and risks of skin cancer (melanoma) and its effects on the eye during direct exposure. The study also reviewed the importance of ultraviolet radiation in creating of vitamin (D) in the body, treating some diseases, such as psoriasis and the need to follow scientific methods stipulated by the World Health Organization in reducing exposing to solar radiation, especially during the summer.
