College of Applied Medical Sciences, University of Karbala discussed a master dissertation on evaluating of some immune parameters and bacterial polysaccharides in rheumatoid arthritis by postgraduate student, Mrs. Zahraa Falah Mahdi.
The dissertation aimed at evaluating the specific antibodies associated with rheumatoid arthritis and their relation to the bacterial component.
The dissertation concluded that there were significant differences in all tested antibodies and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) between the two groups of patients and healthy people, as this result reflects the importance of diagnosing specific antibodies associated with rheumatoid arthritis.
The dissertation recommended designing a study to follow up patients with rheumatoid arthritis with the aim of determining the concentration of disease-specific antibodies and disease-related antibodies at different periods of the disease to show the extent to which autoantibody levels are affected by the duration of the disease and its treatment, as well as recommending studying the effect of bacterial transmission on the subsequent immune response in arthritis patients.
