As part of ongoing academic and scientific efforts to develop innovative therapeutic alternatives, the College of Science at the University of Mosul hosted the discussion of a high-quality Ph.D. dissertation on the preparation and characterization of complexes of divalent elements derived from coumarin ligands, along with a thorough evaluation of their antibacterial activity by the postgraduate student, Ms. Fatima Ali Ayada Al-Wakkaa.

The dissertation, in which discussed under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sahbaa Ali Ahmed Al-Sabaawi, aimed at preparing eight novel ligands and sixty metal complexes, and conducting a comprehensive study of their structural, physical, and chemical properties.

The dissertation demonstrated that the laboratory tests yielded promising results a group of the prepared complexes demonstrated a superior inhibitory capacity compared to their free ligand counterparts against pathogenic bacterial strains, most notably Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, as well as enhancing the potential for utilizing these compounds in the future to develop effective pharmaceutical applications and antibiotics.
