The College of Education, Samarra University discussed a master dissertation on the spectroscopic, thermal, and biological spectroscopy of a new Schiff base, its complexes with some metal ions, and its impurity with nanomaterials by the postgraduate student, Ms. Kamila Yassin Khalaf.

The dissertation aimed at preparing a new ligand (L) from the reaction of (2-amino) pyridine with (4-pyridine) carboxydehyde and preparing complexes containing the ligand (L) with some metal ions, as well as studying the physical properties, the spectra of the prepared complexes and the nanoscale properties of some of the prepared complexes.

The dissertation demonstrated that the prepared Schiff base (L1) behaved as a double-chelated ligand through the two atoms (N) of the azomethine group (C=N) and the cyclic group (C=N) with all the ions used in the research and the prepared complexes also had activity against two types of bacteria (Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus) and one type of fungus (Candida albicans), as well as the ligand (L1) showed biological activity against the two strains of bacteria, while it did not show any activity against the fungus (Candida albicans).
