Southern Technical University’s Master’s Dissertation: On Spread Fungal Infections for Patients with Immunodeficiency

Southern Technical University discussed a master dissertation on  the prevalence of fungal and superficial infections in patients with immunodeficiency and the relation of risk factors to infection with these diseases in Thi-Qar Governorate by the postgraduate student, Mrs.  Marwa Muhammad Wajid. The dissertation demonstrated the importance of early detection of fungi periodically to start effective treatment and prevent complications resulting from it. The dissertation delivered a study of the prevalence of fungal and superficial infections in patients with immunodeficiency during the period from November 2021 to July 2022 and the design of a cross-sectional descriptive study that included 500 samples of patients suffering from superficial fungi due to a weak immune system, such as cancer patients, diabetes patients, renal failure and patients with suffer from genetic blood diseases. The dissertation that the highest percentage found among the age groups over 45 years was 56% (280) and the percentage of males was about 62% (310) more than the percentage of females of 38% (190). The dissertation concluded that the presence of fungi poses a great danger to this category of patients because their immunity is abnormal, which leads to a further deterioration in their health.
