Technology University’s Master's Thesis on Developing Ozonation Technology for Phenol Removal from Oil Refineries' Wastewater

The College of Chemical Engineering, University of Technology discussed a master's thesis on the use of nano-fillers and nano-catalysts to improve the removal of organic pollutants from wastewater discharged from oil refineries in a bubble column reactor, using ozone gas by the postgraduate student, Mr. Haider Lafteh Abdullah.

The thesis improved the efficiency of the ozonation process in a bubble column reactor by using a honeycomb structure filled with activated carbon, along with a magnesium oxide nano-catalyst. Advanced tests and analyses were conducted to evaluate the properties of the filling materials and nano-catalysts used.

The thesis highlighted high efficiency for both the honeycomb structured carbon filler and the nano-catalyst in enhancing the ozonation process and improving the removal of phenol from the wastewater produced by oil refineries and this led to increased treatment rates and a significant reduction in organic pollutants.
