Misan University's Master's Dissertation: On Blood Parameters, Hormones & Mental Image in Case of Polycythemia

College of Science, University of Misan discussed a master dissertation on estimating of erythropoietin levels for some hormones and the lipid profile in adult men with polycythemia by postgraduate student, Mrs. Marwa Ali Majeed.

 

The dissertation aimed at identifying the role of smoking and age in men with polycythemia by studying blood values, erythropoietin, reproductive and thyroid hormones and lipid profile in the study group.


The dissertation highlighted the role of smoking, age and the hormone erythropoietin, which have a direct or indirect effect on the process of forming red blood cells from the bone marrow.

 

The dissertation indicated an increase in the values ​​of blood parameters (red blood cells, hemoglobin,and packed cell volume) and the levels of luteinizing hormone (LH) and T3 in men with polycythemia, while no effect was observed on follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) in them. 


The dissertation also reviewed increasing in lipid profile values ​​in the above study group and the role of oxidative stress in that.


The dissertation recommended the need to conduct more scientific studies on the role of erythropoietin in the formation of red blood cells in people with heart disease or kidney disease, as well as genetic studies, it also recommended including and studying other criteria for larger samples and different ages.
