A joint research team from the University of Al-Mustansiriyah, Dr. Khaleda Ibrahim Noel, Dr. Mustafa Muhammad Ibrahim, Dr. Ahmed Fakhir Hamid, Dr. Nibras Hatem Khamees and Dr. Samih Samir Aqeelah and Ibn Sina University of Medical and Pharmaceutical Science, Dr. Basim Shihab Ahmed conducted a joint study on evaluating of immunochemical examination of (OCT4) expression in benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostate cancer. The joint study reviewed the term cell mark Stem (OCT4) in both benign prostatic hyperplasia and in normal tissues around prostate cancer. The joint study, which was published in the Egyptian Journal of Histology, highlighted that BPH is a chronic disease that causes problems in the lower urinary tract, while prostate cancer is the second most common type of cancer among men and the fourth cancer that occurs in humans in general. The joint study concluded that the expression of (OCT4) appeared in normal tissues around prostate cancer compared to benign tissues in BPH, which confirms the possibility of using this expression as a marker for prostate tissue gene stem cells.
