Al-Nahrain University: On Stem Cells & Implementations

College of Science, University of Al-Nahrain held a symposium on stem cells, their implementations and the ethical debate in their applications. The symposium, in which a number of faculty members and postgraduates participated, reviewed two main types of stem cells (Embryonic stem cells and Adult stem cells) as well as the stem cells are isolated from the umbilical cord and from various tissues in the body and from their applications insulin cells are used in cases of diabetes and neurological diseases such as forgetfulness as well as blood diseases to produce white blood cells, lymphocytes to treat of burns, plastic surgery, gum disease, osteoporosis, cartilage, spinal cord as well as treating eye diseases (retina and cornea) besides autism.
