In cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Federal Ministries of Health and Higher Education in Kurdistan, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research inaugurated the Department of Prosthetics in the College of Health Technologies, Technical University- Erbil, the Director General of the Studies, Planning and Follow-up, Dr. Ihab Naji Abbas said. Dr. Abbas added that this project is the first of its kind in Iraq and that graduates of this specialization will contribute in the field of manufacturing, installing prosthetics according to a high-quality international program and supporting the prosthetics services centers and physical rehabilitation in the Ministry the health. Dr. Abbas continued by saying that the Ministry had a high level of coordination with the Ministry of Health as well as health and educational institutions in Kurdistan in approving curricula, quality standards, requirements and studying the suggestions submitted by the experts of the International Committee of the Red Cross. Dr. Abbas reviewed the Ministry’s keenness on expanding the experiment horizontally to include the inaugurating of such departments in other Governorates to enable Iraqi students to obtain certificates of subtle specialization in the field of prosthetic within the field of medical and health technologies, as well as an agreement was inked with the International Committee of the Red Cross to obtain international accreditation in this specialization within specified and studied timelines.
