College of Agriculture and Forestry, University of Mosul discussed a Ph.D. thesis on the genetic behavior of maize genotypes at different plant densities by the postgraduate student, Mrs. Weam Yahya Rashid.
The thesis aimed at evaluating the characteristics of growth, yield, its components and the qualitative characteristics of ten genotypes of maize of different origins obtained from the College of Agriculture- Hawija / University of Kirkuk.
The thesis reviewed estimating the components of phenotypic variance (genetic and environmental) and genetic parameters (inheritance in the broad sense, expected genetic improvement, coefficients of phenotypic and genetic variation).
The thesis demonstrated a study of cluster analysis and genetic stability of genotypes and traits (male and female flowering dates (day), plant height (cm), head-ear height (cm), leaf area of head-ear (cm2), number of ears per plant, length and diameter of ear (cm), and total ear weight (g) ) and the number of rows and grains per ear.
