College of Medicine, University of Wasit discussed a master dissertation on an evolutionary study on hepatitis B and C viruses in patients with viral hepatitis in the province by the postgraduate student, Mr. Haider Mohsen Ali.
The dissertation aimed at determining the rate of infection with these viruses and which strain was prevalent in selected patients due to the lack of information about the evolution and distribution of the virus in the governorate, as well as the genetic characterization of the viruses.
The dissertation recommended the importance of investigating the evolution of HCV and HBV viruses through whole genome sequencing, working to increase education about viral hepatitis through holding educational conferences throughout the year, and conducting an extensive study of all dialysis units to verify the source of infection by examining a device Hemodialysis and cadres workers.
