College of Pharmacy, University of Al-Nahrain discussed a Ph.D. thesis on the anti-proliferative and anti-angiogenic activity of phenolic and terpene parts of Iraqi peach in human cancer cell lines by the postgraduate student, Mr. Matin Adel Mahmoud.
The thesis aimed at evaluating the inhibitory effect on cancer cell proliferation of phenolic and terpene compounds extracted from the Iraqi peach plant in breast cancer lines AMJ13 and esophageal cancer SK-GT-4 and studying the mechanism through which these compounds inhibit the growth of cancer cells.
The thesis concluded with evaluating the anti-neo-vascular effects of the compounds on cancer cells, as well as reviewing that the treatment methods significantly reduced the growth of AMJ13 and SK-GT-4 cancer cells and did not have significant cytotoxicity on normal cells (all of them showed less cytotoxicity than 50%).
The thesis confirmed that the Chou-Talalay synergy analysis showed a strong synergy of these compounds with the drug docetaxel on both cancer cell lines and did not show any stimulation of cytotoxicity on normal cells.
