The College of Medicine, University of Kufa discussed a master dissertation on the relation between serum irisin and C-reactive protein levels and blood glucose control and peripheral neuropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes by the postgraduate student, Mr. Zaid Talib Al-Fahham.
The dissertation aimed at evaluating serum irisin levels and their relation to blood glucose control and inflammation markers in patients with type 2 diabetes, particularly those with diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
The dissertation reviewed a statistically significant increase in serum irisin levels in diabetic patients compared to the control group and irisin levels were higher in diabetic patients without neuropathy compared to those with neuropathy.
The dissertation highlighted no significant correlation between irisin levels and electromyography (EMG) measurements, including radial nerve amplitude, nerve conduction velocity, and the radial nerve amplitude-to-radial nerve ratio (SRA), in diabetic patients.
