College of Education at Samarra University discussed a master dissertation on evaluating the effectiveness of fig and olive leaf powder loaded with iron oxide nanoparticles in purifying well water by the postgraduate student, Ms. Ruqayya Sabbar Daham.

The dissertation aimed at measuring the concentrations of lead, arsenic, mercury and copper as indicators of well water pollution, studying the physical and chemical properties of water contaminated by heavy metals and comparing the effectiveness of iron oxide nanoparticles prepared chemically and greenly using fig and olive leaves in removing and reducing well water pollution.

The dissertation demonstrated the manufacture of iron oxide nanoparticles using the green method, using aqueous extracts from fig plants and extracts from olive leaves as bioreactors for reducing iron nitrate to iron oxide nanoparticles.

The dissertation confirmed that the absorption value reached 300 nm and 273 nm, while the absorption peak reached 280 nm and 450 nm for the chemically prepared iron oxide nanoparticles after treatment with fig and olive extract, respectively.
