Al-Nahrain University’s Master’s Dissertation: On Assessing Oxidative Stress in Smokers & Lung Cancer in Non-Smokers

College of Science, University of Al-Nahrain discussed a master dissertation on assessing oxidative stress in smokers and lung cancer in non-smokers by the postgraduate student, Mrs. Zubaida Haitham.

The dissertation aimed at reviewing the effects of paclitaxel on ROS in lung cancer patients using the HCS technique to compare the levels of enzymatic antioxidants (SOD, CAT, MDA, and GST) in lung cancer patients and healthy people focusing on smokers.

The dissertation highlighted evaluating the role of some non-enzymatic antioxidants represented by vitamin C, vitamin E and vitamin D3 in the development of lung cancer.

The dissertation demonstrated that lung cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide and is characterized by abnormal cell growth with complex origins that include genetics, hormones, environment and more abnormal cell proliferation leads to the appearance of nodules in lung cancer, as well as reviewing the effect of paclitaxel on levels of reactive oxygen species in lung cancer.
