The College of Agriculture, University of Basrah discussed a master dissertation on the bioremediation of organic pollutants using algae by the postgraduate student, Ms. Zahraa Jabran Abd Al-Hassan.
The dissertation aimed at evaluating the efficiency of certain algae species in removing organic pollutants from contaminated water and wastewater under laboratory conditions, as well as their ability to remove essential nutrients.
The dissertation demonstrated an estimation of the resulting biomass, an evaluation of the treatment system's efficiency, and a determination of the time required to achieve optimal efficiency through the design of a system based on successive tanks, including a mechanical filter and an algae tank.
The dissertation confirmed the system's high efficiency, making it a sustainable and environmentally friendly option.
