The College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Basrah discussed a master dissertation on Multilocus phylogenetics (MLST) and gene expression of adhesion factors in Staphylococcus aureus bacteria in the governorate by the postgraduate student, Ms. Maryam Ahmed Abd Al-Amir.
The dissertation aimed at studying the epidemiological and molecular aspects of Staphylococcus aureus by identifying bacterial isolates and determining their genotypes, as well as studying gene expression to understand their pathogenicity and potential for human-to-animal transmission.
The dissertation indicated that 20 isolates exhibited resistance to methicillin and beta-lactam antibiotics, furthermore, MLST analysis of seven isolates from different sources revealed a high degree of genetic similarity among them, suggesting the possibility of human-to-animal transmission of these strains.
