Center of Dams and Water Resources Researches, University of Mosul held a symposium on the strategic role of the Mosul Dam for water sustainability in Iraq. The symposium, in which a number of researchers participated, reviewed the role of Mosul Dam on water sustainability, preventing flood risk, its impact on the agricultural production, data on remote sensing in the morphodynamics analysis of the dam basin, the impact of climate changes on its safety and the operation of dam reservoirs to meet irrigation requirements and needs. The symposium also reviewed the need of Iraq for water resources as it is constantly increasing as a result of population growth and economic and social development offset by a shortage of water resources as a result of the expansion of investing water resources in riparian countries that come to Iraq.
