College of Materials Engineering, University of Babylon discussed a master dissertation on preparing of biodegradable polymeric Nano-composite membranes for sustainable food packaging by postgraduate student, Mrs. Haneen Hameed Salman.
The dissertation reviewed the effect of the different molecular weight of the biopolymer chitosan through the preparation of two groups of polymer mixtures with a variable molecular weight of chitosan with polyvinyl alcohol to make films in different proportions, and characterizing biodegradable food packaging from biopolymers and protecting the environment from Pollution risks resulting from food packaging waste that affect human health.
The dissertation highlighted that polymer blend Nano-composite films can be proposed as a suitable alternative to synthetic plastics for applications in the food packaging industry.
