College of Education for Pure Sciences, University of Mosul discussed a Ph.D. thesis on studying of the production of Nano-materials by antibacterial cyanobacteria by the postgraduate student, Mrs. Zeina Yahya Qassim.
The thesis aimed at isolating and purifying of three species of cyanobacteria and their visual and molecular diagnosis, as well as identifying of the active compounds of each of the three species via using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).
The thesis demonstrated using of aqueous extracts in wet and dry weights and the methanolic extract prepared from genera of biological production of gold and iron Nano-particles with an inhibitory effect against bacteria.
The thesis highlighted the success of producing gold and iron Nano-particles from cyanobacteria, where the first inference was made on the formation of Nano-particles by the color change of the solutions by the appearance of the purple color of the gold Nano-particles and the pale yellow and lemon yellow color of the iron Nano-particles.
