College of Science, Al-Mustansiriyah University discussed a Ph.D. thesis on the effect of some types of microRNA in regulating immunity against toxoplasmosis in Iraqi patients by the postgraduate student, Ms. Heba Ahmed Qassem.
The thesis aimed at investigating the relations between gene
expression of two types of microRNAs, miR155 and miR146a, and immune
stimulation of some immune parameters in women with acute and chronic
toxoplasmosis.
The thesis reviewed the use of ELISA technology to determine the
levels of SOCS1, SHIP-1, IFN-γ, IL-12, and TNF-α and the use of RT-q PCR
technology to measure miRNA.
The thesis concluded that the microRNAs of 155-miR and 146-miR can
be considered important and influential immune regulators in controlling the
severity of Toxoplasma gondii infection, especially acute ones.
