College of Medicine, University of Al-Mustansiriyah discussed a master dissertation on the effect of blood flow in the hand on the waveforms of the plethysmography of the fingertips and the speed of the pulse wave by postgraduate student, Mrs. Shaima Ahmed Abdullah. The dissertation reviewed that perfusion monitoring and vascular assessment (arterial disease, arterial compliance and aging, endothelial function) are of vital importance to cardiovascular health, as these reasons led to the development of many different techniques over the decades to monitor perfusion and assess vascularity. The dissertation concluded that the pulse transit time increases significantly with the elevation of the hand, and that the probability of correlation of the appropriate second polynomial equation approaches infinity, and it is also possible that this increase in the pulse transit time is related to a decrease in arterial resistance and is also associated with changes in hydrostatic pressure and venous reflex.
