Kirkuk University’s Master’s Dissertation on Estimating of Decongestants & Cough Suppressants

The College of Science, Kirkuk University discussed a master dissertation on the estimation of decongestants and cough suppressants in their pure forms and pharmaceutical preparations using various analytical techniques by the postgraduate student, Mr. Taher Mahmoud Hussein.


The dissertation aimed to develop and apply modern and sensitive analytical methods for estimating certain pharmaceutical compounds used as decongestants and cough suppressants, namely guaifenesin and phenylephrine hydrochloride, in their pure forms and their commonly available pharmaceutical preparations, as well as focusing stems from the therapeutic importance of these two compounds and their widespread use in numerous pharmaceutical formulations.


The dissertation concluded that the developed analytical methods possess high efficiency in accurately and reliably estimating the two studied drugs, with good conformity to the analytical requirements adopted in the field of pharmaceutical analysis. 


The dissertation also demonstrated the potential for adopting these methods in analytical laboratories and pharmaceutical quality control laboratories for analyzing these compounds, thus contributing to the monitoring of the quality of products circulating in the market.
