College of Science, University of Kirkuk discussed a master dissertation on the phenotypic and molecular characterization of chronic myeloid leukemia by the postgraduate student, Mr. Alaa Rafi Nadhem.
The dissertation aimed at analyzing the phenotypic, genetic and immunological characteristics associated with patients with chronic myeloid leukemia, determining the relation of age and gender with blood indicators and studying the molecular pathways that lead to chronic myeloid leukemia, with a focus on studying the BCR-ABL1 Gene expression via using the Genexpert device and expression, protein analysis of the same Gene via using ELISA technology.
The dissertation concluded that females with a family history of chronic myeloid leukemia were more susceptible to infection compared to males and the response rate to treatment varied among patients with chronic myeloid leukemia, as a percentage (78%) of cases reviewed resistance to the medications used.
