College of Education for Pure Sciences, University of Mosul discussed a Ph.D. thesis on the isolation of broccoli protoplasts from artificial seeds, callus and transgenic capillary roots by the postgraduate student, Mrs. Raghad Muhammad Abdullah. The thesis highlighted the possibility of producing broccoli plants from the differentiation of callus parts of roots, stems and leaves. The thesis reviewed the development of somatic embryos from callus stems and roots as well as from cutting stems and roots when culturing and maintaining them on solid MS medium reinforced with (0.4 and 0.5) mg L-1 TDZ. The thesis concluded the possibility of producing artificial seeds using somatic embryos and developing tops, and all attempts related to the cultivation of the two types of protoplasts by burial method in agarose droplets via using the media KM8p and MS axis were unsuccessful.
