College of Science, University of Kirkuk discussed a master dissertation on the histological and physiological changes due to the effect of the statin drug on some organs in male and pregnant female albino mice and their fetuses by the postgraduate student, Mrs. Zainab Nouri Hussein.
The dissertation reviewed the development of hyperlipidemia in mice, the study of the effect of the statin drug on the concentrations of liver and kidney enzymes and the study of histological lesions and genetic deformities resulting from the use of this drug.
The dissertation concluded that there was an improvement in blood fats (cholesterol and triglyceride levels), after using the drug under study and a negative effect on liver function, which resulted in damage to the liver tissue and that the use of this drug during pregnancy was unsafe because it caused many deformities in embryos.
