College of Engineering, University of Al-Qadisiyah discussed a master dissertation on using of soluble low molecular weight hydrocarbon compounds to reduce the density of heavy oil by the postgraduate student, Mrs. Iman Majed Saasa.

The dissertation highlighted the ability of many chemical solvents to reduce the viscosity of heavy oil and to create five new formulations with high stability and solubility in crude oil to reduce the viscosity of heavy oil, to increase production and  to facilitate the transportation of these heavy oils.

The dissertation aimed at treating the heavy crude oil sample with heat only and comparing it with Basrah (Rumaila) medium oil, which has a high API value of 29.6 degrees and an asphalt concentration of 3.12 percent, as the test of the selected chemical additives was individually on Misan heavy crude oil (kerosene, xylene, toluene and naphtha).
