College of Education for Pure Sciences, University of Diyala discussed a master dissertation on studying of cadmium ion adsorption from aqueous solutions via biochar catalyzed from different sources and conditions and treated with silver oxide nanoparticles by the postgraduate student, Ms. Fatima Namir.

The dissertation aimed at studying the adsorption effectiveness of cadmium(II) ions from its aqueous solution (Cd+2) via trying to improve the adsorption efficiency of the surface of biochar prepared from natural sources (wheat straw and walnut shells) at two temperatures (300 and 600°C).

The dissertation reviewed silver nanoparticles, prepared biochar and binary composites using (EDX, XRD, AFM, FE-SEM) techniques, in addition to the BET technique to study the area and pores of the prepared surfaces.

The dissertation highlighted that the best adsorption surface for cadmium(II) ion is the binary composite of walnut shells/silver oxide prepared at 600 °C, followed by the same surface prepared at a temperature of 300 °C with an optimal adsorption time of up to 120 min.
