College of Science, University of Diyala discussed a master dissertation on the impact of oil well drilling operations on the soils of the neighboring areas in the East Baghdad field by the postgraduate student, Mrs. Anhar Fouad Al-Mamouri.
The dissertation aimed at conducting a chemical and mineral study of the soil surrounding the East Baghdad oil field and studying the effect of the factors controlling the distribution of heavy elements in the soil.
The dissertation reviewed the geochemical analysis using the (XRF) device showed that the oxides (SiO2 CaO, Na2O, Al2O3, Fe2O3, MgO, K2O, TiO2) are the main oxides in the study area, as SiO2 and CaO oxides are the most abundant, followed by other oxides in lower proportions.
The dissertation highlighted that the average values of the rare elements (Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb, Sr, V, Zn) are higher than the average of the international limits for soils, except for the element iron (Fe), which was within the global limits for soils.
