During heading the delegation Republic of Iraq in the works of the General Conference at its sixty-seventh session of the International Atomic Energy Agency began in the Austrian capital, Vienna, from September 25 to 29, 2023, to discuss a group of topics on the agenda, His Excellency, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Head of the Atomic Energy Commission, Dr. Naeem Abd Yaser Al-Aboudi affirmed in Ministry’s official speech Iraq’s right to the safe and peaceful use of nuclear technologies and to employ them positively in developing the economic and agricultural environment and strengthening its projects.

His Excellency appreciated the efforts made by the experts of the Atomic Energy Commission in removing radioactive contamination and establishing the required cooperation with the International Energy Agency in implementing joint projects.

Dr. Al-Aboudi reviewed the achievement of important national legislation and laws in this field.

His Excellency said that the conference will extend until the twenty-ninth of September on a number of topics related to the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes in the medical, industrial, agricultural and energy fields besides the participating countries will present their experiences in this field and the path of implementing the international agency’s policies.

Dr. Al-Aboudi added that the Iraqi delegation will review the climate and indicators of the work achieved in this field and the challenges and ambitions in using peaceful atomic energy.

It is worth to be mentioned that official Iraqi delegation, headed by His Excellency, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Abd Yaser Al-Aboudi, includes a number of experts and coordinators of executive and supervisory institutions, including Ministry of Environment, Atomic Energy Authority and Ministry of Health, as well as the conference was attended by a number of officials and representatives of the Agency’s member States.
