Higher Education: On Emitted SO2 Risks

Directorate of Space and Communications, merged Ministry of Science and Technology conducted a study on the effect of emitted SO2 gas as a result of fire accidents. The study reviewed the repercussions of the fire accident in Mishraq Sulphur State Company in Nineveh Governorate and its health impact and risks on citizens because the field site is located near Qayyarah Airbase, Qayyarah Oil Fields and Tigris River. The study based on the data on satellite imagery and meteorology via using geographic information systems in determining the direction of the spread of carbon dioxide, as well as a technical report was prepared with the final results and providing health agencies working in those areas to take the necessary precautions and health recommendations of the World Health Organization to the exposed public who suffer the suffocation and dangers of the emitted gases from oil field accidents.
