Higher Education: On Iraqi University Ranking Project

During a workshop by the Directorate of Supervision and Scientific Evaluation which was held at the University of Al-Mustansiriyah, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research held a workshop on the Iraqi ranking project for public and private universities and colleges, as well as reviewing the indicators of the proposed ranking forms and evaluation criteria. Director of Supervision and Scientific Evaluation, Dr. Salah Al-Fatlawi said that the draft ranking of Iraqi universities and colleges simulates and adopts international quality standards, providing an atmosphere for competition and upgrading the educational process by improving its environment, empowering its students and raising the performance of its faculty members, as well as highlighting the achievements by publishing its researches in Sober journals and winning scientific awards. Dr. Al-Fatlawi added that the project adopts comprehensive indicators, some of which are concerned with evaluating institutional performance and some are concerned with scientific departments that will contribute to the implementation of institutional, program accreditation programs, international ranking and measure the effectiveness of scientific research. For their part, the participants demonstrated the axes and rationales of the ranking form and its indicators according to the proposed standards that take into account the privacy of Iraqi universities and achieve the set goals. It is worth mentioning that the workshop was attended by the Ministry’s Deputy of Scientific Research Affairs, Dr. Yassin Muhammad Hamad Al-Ithawi and representatives of public and private universities.
