College of Science, University of Kufa discussed a master dissertation on evaluating of radiation doses for patients undergoing routine X-ray examinations by the postgraduate student, Mr. Arkan Hussein Sharad.

The dissertation aimed at evaluating the amount of radiation dose received by patients in terms of Entry Surface Dose (ESD), who are subject to X-ray tests, and for certain conditions of body organs.

The dissertation reviewed the radiation dose received by 1,199 patients, where the incoming surface dose was calculated indirectly by knowing the output of the X-ray tube and the physical factors.

The dissertation also reviewed recording the physical factors of exposure, which are voltage, current, and the distance between the patient and the radiation source.

The dissertation highlighted that there is a clear discrepancy in patient dose and specific exposure factors between the x-ray units that were studied.

The dissertation recommended conducting a periodic review of the dose received by patients to ensure the quality of work within the X-ray departments.
